Sustainable Sourcing Manager - Human Rights

At Mars, we believe the world we want tomorrow starts with how we do business today. This job exists within Royal Canin to enable the delivery of our Mars Sustainable in a Generation (SiG) Plan, driving impact across both Healthy Planet and Thriving People pillars, while meeting the expectations of regulators and other key stakeholders and differentiating the Royal Canin brand with customers and consumers.

This role leads the implementation of the Human Rights program in our Commercial (procurement) organization, targeting high and extreme risk supplier facilities and origins, ensuring legal compliance, managing reputational risk, avoiding financial penalties, and securing ongoing supply. The Sustainable Sourcing Manager will bring a strong project management approach and technical subject matter knowledge to drive progress towards the goal of 100% high and extreme risk sites to be actioned by 2030.

This role will also offer an opportunity to expand into other sustainability related topics and work, as needed and relevant for the deployment of the sustainable sourcing strategy at Royal Canin. The ideal candidate will be willing learn fast, be agile, and support other sustainability work as needed, broadening skills over time across social and environmental aspects of sustainable sourcing

What are we looking for?

Minimum

  • Bachelor's Degree in Sustainability or equivalent subject matter
  • 3+ years experience in human rights issues and social compliance / due diligence within the private sector or within NGO / development organizations. Familiarity with the Sedex platform and SMETA audits.
  • 2+ years experience in program development, deployment, and results measurement and reporting
  • Experience in stakeholder management, including internal teams (sourcing, communications, legal, etc) and external relevant actors (suppliers, NGOs, contractors, etc.).Ability to influence others, at all levels, without direct authority.
  • Highly effective collaborator and networker - able to build and manage complex relationships internally and externally.
  • Interpersonal skills and experience engaging with businesses, civil society groups and governments on long-term solutions to human rights challenges.
  • Ability to design new approaches to solve complex problems.
  • Outstanding communication skills with ability to represent Mars to a wide range of external audiences
  • Ability to work independently and efficiently, with minimal supervision, in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work flexibly with global teams across different time zones
  • Proficiency in MS Office, SmartSheet, and Power BI

Preferred:

  • Masters in Sustainability or related field
  • Ability to speak multiple languages - Spanish

What will be your key responsibilities?

DEPLOYMENT AND PERFORMANCE MANAGEMENT

  • Leads the implementation of the new Human Rights program with our suppliers and external implementing partners
  • Works closely with sourcing leads to ensure full alignment, drive participation of the suppliers, and input into the sourcing strategies.
  • Works closely with Royal Canin North America Commercial, Legal, Corporate Affairs, and relevant functional leaders when action is required with a supplier.
  • Works closely with the Royal Canin and Mars Corporate Thriving People and Legal teams to ensure adherence to the program and legislation
  • Works closely with counterparts in other divisions and segments to ensure common approach in case of shared suppliers
  • Collaborates with sourcing manager to support implementation of Mars Responsible Fish Sourcing Guidelines, enabling coordination with overarching Human Rights program where relevant
  • As needed and time permitting, focus on other sustainability areas (Healthy Planet, Thriving People) that help Royal Canin deliver on its Sustainable Sourcing strategy as well as on its Sustainable In a Generation (SiG) commitments.

REPORTING:

  • Lead external and internal reporting to ensure data quality and completeness. Partner with Royal Canin Commercial Effectiveness counterparts to integrate Human Rights reporting needs into Commercial data resources, ensuring timely visibility to supply chain partners and flagging issues where needed to Commercial leadership team.

INTERNAL STAKEHOLDER MANAGEMENT:

  • Represent Royal Canin in cross-segment meetings, providing input where relevant to help to drive continuous improvement of the program with the Mars Corporate Thriving People team and other human rights / social responsibility segment leaders.
