The Regulatory Compliance Manager is responsible for implementing compliance policies and procedures that ensure effective compliance with applicable US and Canadian regulatory requirements. This role is responsible for validating compliance of the North American product labels, marketing materials, and factories to US and Canadian regulations. This role will interact and work closely with teams at the global and market level, including but not limited to R&D, Product Design, Product Performance, Formulation, Graphic Design & Production, Marketing, Scientific Communications, and Factory teams. This role will be responsible for auditing and validating compliance with all U.S. and Canadian government laws and regulations concerning product label and claim substantiation.
Working together with the global, regional, and local Regulatory and marketing, position will utilize all forms of communication to monitor and improve compliance. There is a need for some domestic travel for training, auditing, and relationship building with teams and regulatory authorities.
What are we looking for?
Strong scientific background required
BS in Animal Science, Food Science, Veterinary Science, or related field.
Minimum 5 years’ experience in Pet Food (or similar) Regulatory discipline.
Detail Oriented, Strategic Thinker with knowledge of AAFCO, FDA, CFIA, CAHI regulations.
Deep understanding of the technical aspects of pet food manufacturing processes, quality assurance, good manufacturing practices, and labeling requirements.
Ability to work independently, using strong problem-solving skills, without close supervision, meeting deadlines for multiple priorities.
Excellent communication skills with the ability to interpret scientific and legal documents to draft, clear, compliance reports and submissions.
Proven experience in building cross-functional bridges, leveraging networks to create awareness and ensure compliance is implemented.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (with emphasis in Excel, Word, and PowerPoint) and strong computer skills
What will be your key responsibilities?
Maintain current knowledge base of existing and emerging regulations, standards, or guidance documents for product compliance.
Utilize compliance policies, SOPs and governance frameworks to ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state/provincial, and international regulations.
Support R&D and Product Design during new product development.
Coordinate claim review process for Royal Canin, including working with relevant stakeholders to ensure claim validation and substantiation for the regulatory environment in North America.
Review formulations, product labels, supporting information, web content, and marketing material to ensure compliance with applicable regulations.
Maintain an active, ongoing regulatory risk assessment (to include claims, labels, marketing materials, ingredients, registration, etc.) and assist in the development and implementation of mitigation for highest priority risks.
Support product registration with scientific dossiers and strategic defense as needed.
Review other forms of communication for compliance with applicable regulations and policies as needed.
Monitor emerging global regulations (FSMA updates, sustainability labeling, ingredient bans, ABP revisions). Conduct regulatory risk assessments and provide mitigation plans.
Represent company in industry associations and regulatory working groups.
Other responsibilities may include evaluating compliance of raw material and factory operations.
