JR Smith North Sioux City Site Director, Global Value Chain Operations
Location: Aimargues
Segment: Royal Canin
Type of contract: Permanent
As the HSE Manager for our flagship manufacturing site of around 250 associates, you will be the guardian of safety, health, and environmental excellence. You’ll lead a small but high-impact team, set the site’s HSE vision, and ensure our people, pets, and planet are always protected. Through your expertise and leadership, you’ll drive a strong safety culture, regulatory compliance, and continuous improvement across operations.
What are we looking for?
You have 7 to 10 years of HSE experience, ideally in a manufacturing environment within the food, agro-industrial, or FMCG sector.
You hold at least a bachelor’s degree (Bac+3) in a relevant field.
You bring a well-rounded set of functional capabilities — from developing and deploying safety and environmental strategies, to driving TPM initiatives, auditing compliance, and continuously improving processes and behaviors across the site.
You demonstrate strong leadership skills, able to set a vision, motivate others, influence without formal authority, and operate with high autonomy.
You thrive in a complex, fast-paced manufacturing environment where collaboration with multiple stakeholders and external partners is key to success.
You are confident in challenging decisions and standing your ground when safety or compliance are at stake.
You are fluent in both French and English.
What will be your key responsibilities?
Shape and deliver the site's HSE strategy
Define and deploy HSE priorities in collaboration with site leadership and employee representatives.
Leverage best practices and benchmark insights to continuously improve safety, health, and environmental standards.
Address complex challenges with a pragmatic and innovative mindset, turning issues into opportunities for improvement.
Lead and implement key site policies such as the Pet Safety Policy and the Transportation Safety & Sustainability Policy, ensuring both people and environment are protected.
Coordinate and develop the HSE function
Apply deep HSE expertise while collaborating effectively with other functions (engineering, production, facilities, etc.).
Act as a trusted advisor, influencing stakeholders across the site on HSE policies, standards, and behaviors.
Lead a small team of HSE professionals and support their growth and capability building.
Mentor colleagues and contribute to the broader HSE community through best practice sharing and continuous learning.
Ensure all on-site service providers and contractors comply with the company’s HSE requirements.
Act as the main point of contact for local authorities on all matters related to health, safety, and environment.
Operate autonomously, demonstrating strong ownership and accountability.
Lead the security program
Design, implement, and maintain robust security programs aligned with industry standards (e.g., TAPA) and company policies.
Promote a strong culture of security awareness among associates and stakeholders.
Optimize the site’s security systems, layouts, and access controls to ensure effective protection and monitoring.
Ensure emergency and crisis response plans are up to date, tested, and embedded in daily operations.
Collaborate closely with external partners (security providers, authorities) and internal stakeholders (e.g., regional security team).
Maintain a structured approach to security governance and perform regular audits to identify risks and drive improvements.
Develop and manage key performance indicators (KPIs) to assess security program effectiveness and enable continuous improvement.

You will work in a unique campus, which gathers more than 800 Associates working for: the international HQ, the French subsidiary, two laboratories, a kennel and a cattery with more than 200 cats & dogs, and finally the most important factory of the Royal Canin group
